Cigarette Awareness Campaign
Trash the Cig, Not the City
In 2024 Keep Columbus Beautiful launched a campaign dedicated to raising awareness about cigarette litter on the streets of Columbus. We developed a strategy and content focused on reaching the primarily Millennial audience to communicate the common misconceptions on cigarette butts and how they stick around longer than you might think.
For this campaign we used decade-themed content inspired by the 50s, 80s, 90s and 2000s to create nostalgic visuals and audio to connect with the Millennial's highly nostalgia-driven persona. Each decade illustrates how cigarette litter persists over time, like the trends (or cringy mistakes you might have made) from these decades, reinforcing the lasting impact of improper disposal. Cigarette butts don't biodegrade and the ones that were littered then may still be around today!
The 1990s video stood out with the highest number of engagements, profile visits, and new followers, demonstrating how cultural references from the era resonated with our target audience and effectively drove interaction and behavioral change.
