Pay Equity Campaign
Promoting Fair Pay For All
When employers are hiring for a new role, salary history is often factored into the hiring process. This disproportionately affects women and people of color and is perpetuated by the gender and race pay gap.
Over the course of a 40-year career, this can lead to an average loss of over $400,000 for working women and closer to $1 million for Black and Latina women in the workforce.
In 2024, Columbus City Council successfully passed new legislation to help prevent these discriminatory hiring practices related to salary history. In order to promote voting on and passing this new law, we launched a campaign in collaboration with Columbus City Councilmember Lourdes Barroso de Padilla and her team. Through this educational campaign we were able to successfully reach the Columbus audience in the months before to the vote to pass the law and then in the month's leading up to the law's start date with the support of organic and paid social, educational videos and handouts, and a landing page with resources for both employees and employers.
